Flatholm Island

Steepholm Island

A firm family favourite, the tour includes travelling close inshore under the steep cliffs and headlands of both islands.
A journey of around 20 nautical miles.

We stop many times to allow for photo opportunities and our knowledgeable crew will be happy
to answer any questions you may have.

Rudder rock gun battery and caves are located on the south west corner of Steepholm.
These WW2 emplacements are found on both islands and helped protect the sea convoys returning to America
that were marshalled in the Bristol Channel. Some of the Luftwaffe pilots were shot down by anti aircraft fire
and one gun still exists overlooking rudder rock. The pilots were kept on Flatholm and their barracks are still as they left them over 60 years ago.

Many bird species make the islands their home at various times of the year and hundreds of seabirds can be seen circling the high cliffs on most days. In July & August Atlantic Grey seals regularly fish along the shingle beach
just North of Steepholm and have even been seen in Cardiff Bay.

Great care is being taken to protect both islands and the historical features on both are looked after by
The Flatholm Project and The Kenneth Allsop Memorial Trust.

LANDING ON FLATHOLM ISLAND IS SUBJECT TO WEATHER CONDITIONS
